The “Climbing Rock” Author:

"Climbing rock" is made of parapets for balconies. It is covered with
concrete and 15 metre high. It has three sides, A, B, C with two projection and
a "chair". Every Wednesday and every Friday one or two climbing clubs
are there. They are there from 5 pm
to 9 pm to climb the stone. Children are also allowed to climb. For them they
bring special equiment. It is a lot of fun. My job is to secure children and
grow-ups. I climb myself and do the start-climb. It is so much fun. Later I am
exhausted. There are often people watching us who admire us for climbing the
stone. There
were people who were killed at the stone (one woman from the club last
year). She climbed and was secured by a rope which ripped to pieces. She fell 15
metres and died in a hospital! There was another accident when a friend climbed in the night, fell and broke a leg. That was four weeks ago. A boy aged 12 climbed the rock and was too afraid to climb down again. He was saved by the fire brigade. The parents had to pay 2700 dollars (5500 German marks ). That can be really dangerous. There is a certain height to which you are allowed to climb. I do not climb without a rope and belt.
